Drawing

Another week another exciting blog post! This week my friend, Caroline Luce, helped me with starting my rough draft of drawing the animals. When I was drawing the pig, who is the protagonist of the story, it came very easy I was actually kind of surprised. However, when I drew the wolf, who is the antagonist of the story, it was very hard to get him to actually look like a wolf instead of a lion or a different animal. If I'm going to have to draw  the lion on every page of my story book then it will be very frustrating to make sure he looks the same through out the book. Also, i have bought all of the supplies to make my book such as the paper, special calligraphy pens to make the hand writing pretty, the ink for the calligraphy pens, and ribbon the tie the book together when I am done.

Final steps!

As of my last blog post I had my title page done, my first page done, and my last page done illustrations writing and all! I am actually really juiced up to see the book getting put together for the final project to present in front of the class. My drawings have gotten alot better and the first page is really pretty with colorful drawings of the characters in my books like the pig and the wolf. Since I already have the plot of the book the only thing Ireally need to do is the final drawings. Also i have seen gifs of calligraphy on my dashboard on tumblr, but this time when I saw a gif of somebody writing something in that handwriting all I cold think about was how much the probably practiced to perfect it like they had.

Calligraphy

Last week i had mentioned a friend and team mate of mine named Jake who does calligraphy as a hobby and that he would be writing some of the important pages in my novel such as the title pages, the first page and the last page. Well, he came over on Tuesday morning until about late afternoon trying to teach me how to do calligraphy and showed me all of his calligraphy pens and it was really cool to watch him writing the letters and the flow the wrist with the hand, it was actually beautiful. He let me try to write some of the letters and words for each of the pages but they did not look nearly as dainty or eyeful as Jake's letters had even with a couple of hours of practice. By next blog post I am hoping to have my illustrations of the pigs and wolves looking better and more alike every drawing. Sadly i am not a very artsy person, but I have noticed that my drawings are getting better with each time I practice!

Pig!

My friend, Skyler, helped with me getting started with the drawings this week, and they didn't turn out as well as I had thought but I guess I will just have to practice until the drawings can come out the way I want them to, which is asymmetrical and every pig and wolf I draw should come out looking at least a little similar to each other, however all of the drawings of the pigs and wolves looked completely different from each other and you wouldn't have been able to tell that they were the same character in the story book. So far this week that has really been my only struggle since the switch to writing a story book instead of a recycled clothing fashion show. Since I already have the plot of the book laid out for me I just need to but the paper and my friend, Jake, does calligraphy so I will be getting him to write the title pages of the book for me to set a pleasing aesthetic for the short story. However these slightly resemble how the pictures I drew turned out.

Characters and Setting

I have mostly picked out the characters for my book, which i have decided will be a beast fable (satire 101). The main character (protagonist) will be a cute little piggy and the antagonist will be a coyote. I don't want to give away to much but i can say that the little piggy will teach the coyote life lessons that he has never leaned; the characters will be drawn by hand every page and i have google each animal to get an idea of what i want each one to looks like. However i am not very good at drawing, I'm more of a 3D art kind of person, like ceramics and sculptures, so that will be a struggle for me but my best friend is amazing at 2D art and she said she would be happy to help me getting started with the book.

Major Fail

Last week was a totally failure. The outfits I tried to make we're not turning out and when I tried to move on to make about her outfit something would go wrong with that. I have changed my project and decided to make a storybook teaching children the rights and wrongs of life such as, lying and cheating vs. telling the truth. It will be a short story that I can read to the class and on presentation day I will have a hard cover copy of it and I'm going to make a plot and characters this week and hopefully in two weeks I will have most of the story written.

Sewing

Before starting the outfits I have to learn ho to sew! so last week my mom tried to teach me how to sew with my hand and needle but she got so frustrated and gave up so she signed me up for a sewing class at Michaels. At first it was very frustrating but after about 30 minutes I got the hang of it it was actually kind of relaxing for a little! I'm very excited to start my first outfit and see how it turns out. I'm just a little nervous that it's not going to turn out how I designed it or picture it turning out.

Project runway!

Well I have already made one outfit for my runway, it is composed of plastic bags for a skirt and bow and a regular white t-shirt. As I was putting the skirt together with sewing needles I kept pricking my fingers so i had to take a break. The skirt alone probably took me about three hours and was made for a little girl about the age of eight since my sister volunteered to model the outfit for me during the final presentation runway.
I am in the process of making another another outfit which will be a dress formed by putting together empty cereal boxes on top of each other. The problem that I'm running into with this one is I don't think I will be able to sew it together and I'm not sure glueing all of the boxes together will look flattering for the dress on the model.
